Stories children ask for again and again

Rhyming picture books that help teach social, emotional and practical lessons

Hello, and welcome to my little corner of the internet! I’m Mel, an author-illustrator creating colourful, rhyming picture books for children aged 3 to 6 (or thereabouts).

My stories are built around the things we try to teach our little ones every day, from honesty, kindness and patience, to friendship and forgiveness. Most importantly, they’re proper stories, full of rhythm, rhyme, memorable characters and enough fun and humour to make children ask for them again (and again).

Since launching my debut book, The Wizard’s Assistant, I’ve loved seeing it find its way into homes, schools, nurseries and family events across London. At the heart of Mummy’s Fables is a simple idea: children deserve stories that delight them, and grown-ups deserve books that help start the conversations that matter.

Hello, I’m Mel, an author-illustrator creating colourful rhyming picture books for children aged 3 to 6.

My stories are built around the big things little children are learning every day, from honesty, kindness and patience to friendship, forgiveness and finding the courage to do the right thing. They’re proper read-aloud adventures, full of rhythm, humour and characters that children want to meet again and again.

"A beautifully written and illustrated story, about the importance of being truthful and honest and how not being that can cause upset for others! Packed full of positivity and written in rhyme, this is a book that all young people will love and benefit from!"

The Wizard's Assistant

Since its release, The Wizard’s Assistant has received widespread praise from industry experts, teachers, early years practitioners, and families of young children.

Author Visits

I’ve been lucky enough to share The Wizard’s Assistant with well over a thousand pupils across London primary schools, nurseries and early years settings. My interactive, curriculum-linked author visits are designed for EYFS, KS1 and, where relevant, KS2. They are ideal for World Book Day, literacy weeks, PSHE sessions and reading-for-pleasure events, using storytelling, rhyme, discussion and creative activities to bring the book to life. I’m also working on my upcoming second book, 'The Rainbow’s Secret: A Tale About Healthy Eating,' which I’ll be ready to share with schools soon through a new story-led session exploring healthy eating, food choices and “eating the rainbow”.
