Hi, I’m Mel, a London-based children’s author-illustrator. I create colourful rhyming picture books for children aged 3 to 6, and offer children’s author school visits in London and the Home Counties.

My stories are designed to entertain children while helping grown-ups open up conversations about big everyday lessons, including honesty, kindness, patience and friendship.

Mummy’s Fables began in August 2024, when I was at home with two boys under two and noticed that lessons seemed to land better when they came through a story. That idea brought together two things that had shaped my path already: a First Class degree in Fine Art, and experience as a Research Assistant in Pedagogy, the academic study of how children learn. I set out to create proper read-aloud stories that children would love, with useful messages woven through the adventure.

Since publishing The Wizard’s Assistant, I have shared my debut story with more than 1,000 pupils across schools and nurseries in London. I also share tips on using picture books as teaching tools across social media, often somewhere between school runs, sketchbooks and the daily negotiations of life with two small boys
